Universities need to develop a system of indicators that allows evaluating
the quality of its teaching staff, that helps informed decision-making on
their hiring and promotion and that is a reference for planning teaching staff
training activities in its different phases of professional progression. The
University of Granada (Spain) is no stranger to this trend, and therefore is
promoting studies, as the one presented here carried out by the Research
Group FORCE, to establish a system of indicators of excellence appropriate
to the characteristics of its faculty.
The process developed in two phases. Initially a sample of teachers from
different strata of the whole teaching population was studied in depth. The
study was carried out based on an interview. The sample consisted of six
teachers from six centers from each of the six key areas of teaching that we
have established: health sciences, physical and natural sciences, social sciences
and law, humanities, technical sciences and fine arts. For the analysis
of qualitative data we used in depth content analysis that allowed the definition
of indicators for the relevant dimensions of the entire narrative material
collected. In a second step, we submitted the list of indicators to the entire
population of the University faculty, a total of 3003 teachers. For the analysis
of quantitative data, basic descriptive analysis was applied.
