Based in a manuscript containing the coordinates of 1531 placenames
in Portugal, this article shows that it must be attributed to this year, to the humanist‑mathematician
Francisco de Melo, and composes a virtual map of the entire country according to the ideas
expressed by Alberti in his "Descriptio Urbis Romae" (1450). It is a landmark in the introduction of Albertian thought in Portugal ‑
through Paris, where Melo studied from 1514 to 1520 ‑
and the start of a century‑long
Albertian influence in architectural theory and buildings both in Portugal as in Brazil.
brevemente
