Cinema and comic in university education of Ancient Greece History
Resumo
In this article we will present a proposal for teaching innovation in university
education. Given the large amount of knowledge that a university teacher must
teach every term, we will try to help students to assimilate all the information. On
the one hand Ancient Greece History is a compulsory subject in History degrees, and
many students only have 4 months to acquire a basic knowledge of Ancient History.
In this context, motivation is fundamental to this project in order to make best use
of the time available. On the other hand, reception studies have been on the rise in
recent years. There are plenty of useful academic articles that can be used in class.
So, we try to take advantage of this innovation in order to evaluate students. In this
proposal, practice and homework are devised using Peplum cinema, old and recent
films, and comics related to Ancient History. We ask the students to engage in role-
-play as historical advisors. Each one must write an academic article considering how
Ancient Greece is reflected in modern culture. We offer them academic support and
some materials which will also be displayed in this article. We expect innovative work
from them, not simply an individual paper that can be written in a couple of hours in
a library. Technology, New tools, Mass media and Reception are to be employed by
our students.
